Chicago area Bally's gyms to become LA Fitness

Chicago, IL — Chicago area Bally Total Fitness clubs change ownership after LA Fitness International LCC announced purchase of 171 Bally clubs, including all locations in Illinois. 

Members of the 23 Chicago area Bally Total Fitness clubs received email Wednesday night announcing the decision.

According to the email, LA Fitness will assume all Bally membership agreements for the affected clubs and will begin collecting membership dues. There was no indication if rates would change. 

Chicago-based Bally operated 271 health clubs across the country, including the popular location in Chicago's Century Mall. 

The deal, which was announced Monday, is valued at $153 million.
